always ask me to recommend music, so here are a few titles to get you
started in your quest. There are so many, how does one choose? I hope
this will help!
Amr Diab
– Egyptian Pop (has an easy listening feeling) Amr Diab is
known for blending Western and Middle Eastern/Egyptian rhythms.
Easy on the ear uninitiated to modern Middle Eastern music.
Hakim
– Egyptian Pop (has an upbeat folk feeling) Hakim is famous for his
Egyptian street-pop style of music known as jeel.
Najwa Karam(Lebanese pop) A famous award-winning Lebanese pop singer.
Bellydance Superstars
CDs are a nice compilation of music ranging from Egyptian
classical and pop pieces to new-world music.
Jalilah’s Raks Sharki Series (traditional dance music) Classical
Egyptian Bellydance volume 1: Raqs Sharqi
Classical Egyptian Bellydance volume 2:Amar 14 A variety of
classical Egyptian dance music, these albums have both shorter
and longer pieces, and contain some well-known classics.
Arabesque Dance Company
& Orchestra
(traditional acoustic music – full Arabic orchestra) by Yasmina Ramzy’s
Arabesque Orchestra in Toronto Oyoun
& Nawaem: both include many different styles of
music for bellydancers.
Mediterranean Raqs Band(acoustic music by Saqra’s band in Seattle) 20+ short songs on each disk that can be danced to
individually or mix-n-matched to create a longer set. Various

Hossam Ramzy
(traditional Egyptian dance music) Mr. Ramzy has produced nearly 30 CDs, making it difficult
for me to choose! Baladi Plus: folkloric (my personal
favourite) Sabla Tolo:
drum solos The Best of Hossam Ramzy: the title is
self-explanatory!
Belly Dance with Kamaal & Anja
(traditional
Egyptian dance music) A nice compilation of
various artists; including folkloric, upbeat & classical, fast
and slow pieces.
Aziza Raks! (traditional Egyptian dance
music) A compilation album
consisting of a variety of music representing a wide spectrum of
styles and genres.
